Pricing
What's free, and what won't be
Last updated: 9 September 2026
Everything below marked free is free permanently.
Not free for now, not free during a beta. We're writing this down before asking anyone for
money precisely so that nothing you rely on today can be taken away and sold back to you later.
Plenty of apps launch free, wait for people to build a habit, and then put a price on the habit.
That's the thing we don't want to do to you, and the only way to promise it credibly is to say
where the line is before there's anything to buy.
1. Free, permanently
The whole thing you'd actually call the app:
- Logging workouts, personal bests, hold timers, and your full training history
- Your training plan — building it, editing it, the ready-made programmes, supersets, per-person assignment
- A group of up to five, with the shared plan, live feed, reactions and comments
- Check-ins, check-outs and spotter requests
- Progress charts, streaks, the trophy case, and the weekly group view
- Notifications, nudges and the weekly recap
- Emergency contact, medical notes and the emergency alert — safety is never behind a price
- Importing your history from a spreadsheet, and exporting all of it whenever you like
Import and export stay free for a specific reason: you should be able to bring your training in
from wherever it currently lives, and take it back out again, without either direction costing
you anything. An app that holds your data hostage has stopped competing on being good.
2. Free, with a limit
Three features call a language model every time they run, which means they cost us real money per
use. Those have an allowance rather than a hard door:
- AI Coach — a fresh read of your training once a week. Your existing insights stay readable any time, as often as you like.
- Drafting a plan — three drafted programmes a month. Anything already added to your plan stays yours.
- Home-workout alternatives — five a month, and anything already generated stays on your plan.
These numbers are set so that a normal solo lifter never notices them. If you're hitting them,
you're using the expensive parts hard enough that a paid plan is genuinely worth it to you — and
if we've set them badly, tell us and we'll move them.
3. What a paid plan will add
Nothing here exists yet, and nothing here is something you have today:
- No limits on any of the three features above
- Running more than one group at a time — for coaches and instructors with several squads
- A coach's view across those groups: who's training, who's drifted, who's on which day
It's aimed squarely at people using SetBuddies to run training for others. If you're using it
with your training partners, the free app is the whole app, and we'd rather you told a friend
than paid us.
4. Founding members
Everyone here early keeps the paid features free, permanently.
If you joined before we launched properly — and for a while after — you get everything above at
no cost, for as long as your account exists. No expiry, no "founding pricing" that quietly rises.
5. When
There's no payment system, no price, and no date. When there is one, it'll be on this page before
it's anywhere else, and the limits above are the only ones that will ever apply to what you can
already do today.
Questions, or think we've drawn the line in the wrong place?
Tell us — while it's still easy to change.
